9:29 pm 20th May How many are you?
At least 10,000 people worldwide attended the first anti-Scientology protest. At London protests, we've had around 400-600 each time on average. It's difficult to give total numbers for Anonymous, as its impossible to tell who is who.
Why you don’t want to be considered a group? No groups no action.
Anyone can be Anonymous. We have no leaders, and so there isn't really any 'group' structure as such. The actions of Anonymous are just what individual people decide to do.
If you are an idea, what is it? Who had it?
I don't think the idea of Anonymous can be attributed to anyone specific. The whole concept is derived from the anonymity under which people can post messages online. It's not really attached to any group or idea at all.
What does it means exactly: chanology?
Chanology is the collective name used to describe the Anonymous protests against the practices of Scientology.
When, where, why and how did it all start?
Anonymous has been around for years, ever since websites allowing you to post anonymously (collectively called the *chans) were started up. Project Chanology began in January 2008 when a Scientology-made video of Tom Cruise was leaked onto youtube (it can be seen at http://gawker.com/5002269/the-cruise-indoctrination-video-scientology-tried-to-suppress). Scientology filed a copyright notice and the video was taken down. This blatant abuse of free speech was noticed by Anonymous, and the video was re-uploaded hundreds of times. It became more and more widespread, culminating in global protests against the practices of Scientology in February 2008. |

9:30 pm 20th May Were someone of you personally met Anonymous.
I personally have met loads of Anonymous, both online and at protests - and they're awesome. The 'Church' may call us hacker gangs and cyber terrorists, but we're just normal people like everyone else.
I want to become an Anonymous: what I have to do?
You don't have to do anything. There's no membership system - you just join in however you want.
What I have to do as a protesters. What are the main specific actions.
There's really no specific rules. We're here to protest against the actions of the so-called Church of Scientology, and you can do that however you want. Bring signs, flyers, cake, whatever. Get the word out to as many people as you can. As long as you're helping the cause, you can do whatever you want.
What has been the more extreme action? And the more extreme reaction against you?
In the beginning of Project Chanology, attacks took place against Scientology websites and they were taken down temporarily. The Anonymous who took part in those attacks are largely different to those who attend protests, and so the actions of a small number of people cannot be taken in the same way as the actions of others.
The Church of Scientology has responded aggressively to the Anonymous protests, in tune with their Fair Game policy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Game_%28Scientology%29' target='_blank'>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_Game_%28Scientology%29). They have released videos 'unmasking' members of Anonymous, and have stalked and harrassed them. One member had his cat poisoned ( |

9:30 pm 20th May http://www.laist.com/2008/04/05/charges_dropped.php). Friends of mine have been followed home. That's the main reason why we wear masks - because of their abuse and harrassment.
How many Anonymous in the world? Were more?
Over 10,000 people attended the first Anonymous protests in February. It's impossible to count how many Anonymous are present on the internet, but is likely to be much more.
How do you organize you?
There's not really any central point of organisation for us. In London, we mostly organise through IRC (at http://irc.partyvan.fm #london), Wirah (an 'antisocial network' dedicated to Anonymous, http://www.wirah.com) and the Enturbulation forums (http://forums.enturbulation.org). But that's just the tip of the iceberg - we have the *chans, Partyvan, Encyclopaedia Dramatica, and hundreds of other local websites and forums. There is a directory dedicated to the communication of local group of Anonymous at http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Project_Chanology/Anonymous_Directory - this is also a point of contact for the media to get in touch with us.
Were are you based, personally?Won’t you give me your phone number?
Personally, I'm based about 40 minutes from London. I don't really want to give away any more information than that - I don't trust Scientology at all. I'm happy to communicate through private message on IRC/Enturbulation, or by email, however. |

1:29 am 21st May I'd add at some point that the actions of every single anon are made as individual, but may (or may not) be supported by the rest and may (or may not) be carried forward. There is no democracy, but lots of voices at the same time. Good ideas prevail, whilst bad ideas fail. This is important because a single action from a single anonymous doesn't have to have the support of the other anonymous.
(this to specify that if someone says 'lolol I'm going to bomb the COS and I'm anonymous' doesn't have to be the hivemind agreeing to do that). |

Just add your response and tag it with your nick, for each question.
Try not to read other's responses before writing your own as this ends up with you repeating them or wording things similarly (happened to me) |
